How to Format your Symbian Smartphone

Have you ever gone through times where your Nokia smart phone died on you? Well, it’s good to learn a few tricks to get rid of troubles like the frequent crashes, the phone hanging time and again etc.  So, what is the best fix? Ideally, you can go in for a complete format to fend off these troubles?

As you would know, Nokia Smart Phones are mainly built on Symbian platform.  Phones that operate on the aforementioned platform allow two kinds of formats in general. One is hard format and the other one is called the soft format. It’s always advisable to go for soft format, and if there’s no improvement, one could always go for hard format.

Precautions

There is a list of things you would have to bear in mind though. Look below for a small set of precautions.

1) Use Nokia PC Suite and back up all your data. Make sure you create a backup of data, gallery, images, music and contacts etc.

2) Ensure that the battery is full.

3) Never ever switch off your Nokia Symbian smart phone while formatting it.

Let’s delve deep into how to complete the formatting process of Symbian mobile phones.

Soft Format

  1. Firstly, close all applications that are running in the background.
  2. Key in *#7370# as you would normally do while entering a phone number.

Voila, your phone would be formatted already.  This is all about soft format. Let’s talk about the other option you have- the hard format.

Hard Format

Word of Caution: This process may render your phone totally unusable in case battery gets empty somewhere in the middle of formatting, hence charge your phone fully or charge it as the formatting is being done because this process DOES drain the battery.

  1. Firstly, turn off your Nokia Symbian phone.
  2. Next, press and hold down the following keys all at the same time.
  • The Call key
  • The * key and
  • The ’3′ button
  1. Now turn on your phone without taking your fingers off, and the format would begin.
  2. Release the keys only when you see a dialog box pop up with a message ‘Formatting’
  3. Hold on for a while, it usually takes a bit longer to complete.

There you are, this is how hard format is done.
